ICARE Newsletters
The Indigenous Cultural Understandings of Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias – Research and Engagement (ICARE) project aims to better understand Indigenous lived experience of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias across the disease trajectory in order to better inform the creation of culturally appropriate and safe approaches to improve dementia diagnostics, care, and outreach.

The ICARE project is conducted in partnership with seven First Nations on Manitoulin Island, Ontario, Red Lake and Grand Portage Tribal Nations in Minnesota, and the Oneida Nation in Wisconsin. Each site is guided by a local community based advisory board, council, or group. We worked with leadership and advisory members at each site to hire community-based
researchers to assist with all aspects of the research.

The ICARE newsletters are produced twice a year and provides updates on the research activities taking place in each community.
Funding: This research was generously supported by the National Institute on Aging (1R56AG062307-01, R01AG062307 PI: Jacklin).
